ROI For HVAC Management and Recommissioning |
| Contributing Author |
John Adams, PE, LEED AP |
| Course Description |
This course is designed to offer the learner techniques to better operate buildings, especially Heating, Ventilation and Cooling (HVAC) systems. Commercial type heating and air conditioning systems are very similar in equipment and operations for many building types such as barracks, hospitals, hospitality facilities, and laboratories, and the recommendations presented in the course are applicable across the same scale.
All commercial building operators can achieve a high performance building to improve efficiency, decrease utility costs, and increase the life of the building. The purpose of this course is to render insight on how commercial buildings can become high performance buildings throughout their lives and provide recommendations of energy efficient and sustainable operations. It incorporates these recommendations with the US Green Building Council’s Leadership for Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) – Existing Buildings Operations and Maintenance (O&M) program. |
| Learning Objectives |
Upon completion of this course you will:
- Be empowered as a facility manager and operator to operate his or her facility as efficiently as practical given the constraints of existing installed equipment.
- Understand the major components of large commercial building heating, ventilating, and air conditioning equipment and how these interact to provide building conditioning.
- Render insights on facility upgrades to incorporate with normal maintenance, renovations and alterations, and capital projects.
- Understand how to achieve occupant comfort, minimize comfort complaints, while minimizing energy use, and how this impacts the operations of HVAC.
- See the parallels between high performance building operations and US Green Building Council’s Leadership for Energy and Environmental Design – Existing Buildings Operations and Maintenance (O&M) for planning long term operations, maintenance and renovations.
